Lakewood is a city within Cuyahoga county, within the state of Ohio. It is part of the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan Area and is five miles west of Cleveland. Lakewood City is bordered by Lake Erie. The city of Lakewood is densely populated with a few distinct neighborhoods. Clifton Park is recognized as the richest section of the city. Lakewood was originally an endless forest until Lakewood's first settler, James Nicholson, developed a huge acreage and constructed a colonial residence in 1818. During the mid-19th century, food production, specifically high-quality fruit, was a core of the region's economy. The community prospered at the end of the Civil War, and Lakewood City's population significantly expanded. Many remarkable mansions were built during this time by rich people.

The development of streetcar lines and trains at the end of the 19th century, helped to boost the town's population again. Houses started building on agricultural lands. Eastern and Central European immigrants came to work in Lakewood City's factories. Lakewood officially became a city in the year 1911.

Lakewood City's people benefit from the proximity to Cleveland City, which offers many entertainment and cultural attractions as well as professional sporting events. The nearby Cuyahoga Valley National Park has exceptional bicycle riding and hiking trails and Cuyahoga Scenic Railroad tours. The Rocky River Valley is actually a well-known place as well. Beaches in lake Erie are always popular.

There are several parks and trails in Lakewood City intended for bicycle riding, jogging and various outdoor activities. During wintertime, the Winterhurst Ice Rink is a favorite, whereas Lakewood Park offers a great concert venue. Residents get pleasure from strolling the boardwalk and enjoying the views of the Cleveland skyline. Detroit and Madison avenues feature many nightclubs and restaurants.
